I introduce the short a and short i word family houses to my class starting in October. I slowly add in short e, o and u. And starting in about April, I add in the long vowel set too. These centers have my kinders working on word families all year long!
Give it a try with the FREE Short Uu Word Family Houses.
Also available are the rest of the Short Vowel Houses.
And the latest addition to the series, Long Aa and Long Ii. (I put the blue curtains on these so the pieces would not get mixed up with the short vowel pieces).
I hope you find them useful!

If You Give a Pig a Pancake Literacy and Math Centers *FREE*
I had been submitting items to Teachers Pay Teachers to be featured as part of the newsletter every week for a while. Finally this past weekend, my plant unit vocabulary was featured!!!! I was ecstatic! Over the past week I have gone from 272 to 418 followers; 7,137 downloads to 14,930! I am still calming down from my excitement! If you don't happen to have the plant unit vocabulary yet you can grab it here.
As a thank you to all my new followers and the followers who have been with me for a while I created a If You Give Pig a Pancake Literacy and Math Center Freebie!
For these centers you print out each page on a different color of cardstock paper. No color ink needed!
Here is practice for writing -an word family words. I let a student of mine do this and the rest of the class was so jealous. Nothing like a little motivation to get playtime cleaned up quickly. (evil grin)
In this center, students match stacks of pancakes to the correct magnetic number. There is also a recording sheet for this center.
Not pictured but also in this set include- beginning sounds and rhyming words.

Springtime
I know that I may be a little early with the springtime celebration, but our low temperature in Florida is in the high 70s again, so that to me means it is spring! The best thing about spring to me is that my Kindergartners are really starting to read! This means I have to find lots more sentence reading practice to keep them challenged. I created this game last year and my class loved it! I also have a paid version of it if you want more practice.
I also have created some math and literacy homework practice perfect for spring.
Here is my Easter themed literacy pack!
I hope you're able to find these resources helpful! Kerry

Read Across America Week part 3
A focus on Dr. Seuss makes it the perfect time to revisit rhyming with my students. Specifically, that you can use words you know to develop patterns about how to new spell words. I pulled out a great rhyming resource from the beginning of the year- Rhyme Time Concentration by Stay and Play. I printed the pages on different colored paper, cut all the cards out then separated the words and pictures. The words were set out on tables and students were given pictures to match to the correct words. Students grabbed a new picture once they had matched the first set. We did this for all 48 pictures. Then we used them to create an anchor chart that now hangs at the writing center.
We created our own Green Eggs and Ham rhyming posters. Students glued the "I will not eat them" phrases on their papers first and then chose from a selection of rhyming phrases to add to their papers. As they were working I was able to assess students' understanding of rhyming. Once they finished, students practiced reading their rhymes in preparation for presenting to the class. This was their favorite part of the whole project!
Later in the week students created their own rhyming books.
